Obituary of Vivian Macon

Vivian Muse Macon, 92, passed away peacefully on January 18 at her home in Bryson City.
Vivian was born in Asheville to Troy Muse and Nellie Welch Muse. She grew up in the Welch family home in Bushnell, where she attended the Bushnell School. She lost both of her parents at a young age, and was raised by her uncles Columbus and J.C. Welch, along with Betty Southards. Upon completion of the Fontana Dam, the family relocated to Bryson City. She graduated from Swain County High School, and went on to earn her Masters in Social Work from Tulane University.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 48 years Nathaniel Macon, and her daughter Patricia Macon.
She is survived by her daughter Susan Macon of Waynesville, NC, daughter Ann Macon McDermott of Wayne, PA, son Nathaniel Macon Jr. of Bryson City, and her seven grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 PM Friday at the Bryson City Presbyterian Church, officiated by Rev. Terry Hanna. The burial will follow at Swain Memorial Park, officiated by Rev. Al Alemany.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hillside Baptist Church, P.O. Box 1099, Bryson City, NC 28713.
