Velma and Marvin, Your mom saved many of our lives at one time or another. She was an angel according to my Grandmother, Minnie Wiggins. She loved her so much and was so appreciative of all she did for her. Peace and love to you! Faye Carson Cook, Canby, Oregon.

I regret never having the opportunity and privilege to meet Mrs. Pearl in person but I will always treasure the phone calls.
She was so kind and patient to answer my questions and share stories about my family's (Conley) early life on Pilkey Creek.
I will also treasure the time she spent talking to my daddy about her memories of his family.
We were blessed to have the opportunity to see the Pilkey Creek cemetery this past summer and site of where the old home place was before it washed away in the storm.
Mrs. Pearl helped fill in many of the blanks and we will always be grateful, especially for my daddy being able to see his little brother's grave for the first time in over 70 years. Daddy will cherish being able to sing happy birthday to Mrs. Pearl on the telephone.
She touched so many lives and she certainly touched ours.
May God bless and keep you

Velma and all of Pearl's family. While I did not know Pearl well, thanks to my brother sharing interviews and tapes of her with me I felt like I did. Also, her marvelous influence has shone through in you, Velma, all these years. She was a woman who truly epitomized all that is meaningful and enduring about mountain life--honest, caring, compassionate, proud of her roots and raising in a quiet but meaningful way, and so much more.
She represents one of the last of a world we have largely lost, a member of the aptly name greatest generation. You were blessed by her for all the days of a long life well lived, and I pray that in this time of trouble memories of this staunch woman of the mountains will sustain you.

It was a sad time when I heard of my Aunt Pearl's passing. I remember her as someone who loved me and always called me James. I loved her back and will always remember her hugs and how good she could cook. I am happy that she had such a long and happy life. My family moved to Washington state when I was nine so you would think my memories would have dimmed but that was not the case for sure. She directed my wife and I around to all the places I could remember from my childhood in a 2005 visit. I will never forget that day or a lot of other memories shared with her. I am sure she is telling stories to everyone in heaven right now. I hope she gives my Mom, Dad and brother a hug for me.
