Obituary of Violet Elizabeth Walker

Violet Elizabeth Walker (January 23, 1917-July 6, 2014) passed away peacefully in her home in Whittier, NC. She was a native of Guilford County and moved to Jackson County in 1984 to be near her daughter and grandchildren. She was a longtime member of Guilford Baptist Church in Guilford County. In moving to Whittier, she became a member of Shoal Creek Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Robert Harold Walker of Berlin, NJ and her parents, Carl Stafford and Bettie Harrell Williams of Guilford County; six brothers and one sister: Harrell, Richard, Ivey, Norman, Clarence, and Joseph Williams and Ellen Stafford King all from Guilford County. She is survived by her daughter, Kay Sharpe Morrow and her husband, Mic, her two sons: James Edward Sharpe and wife, Brenda and children, Bailey and Zachary of Cordele, GA and Robert Aden Sharpe and wife, Leizl and daughter, Maria of Stocksdale, NC; two sisters: Ruth Hiatt and husband, Reverend Bob Hiatt of High Point, NC and Mary Sellers and husband, Reverend Garvin Sellers of Bremen, GA; one sister-in-law, Margie Williams, wife of Joseph Williams, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Violet was North Carolina's own "Rosie the Riveter" and was employed by Glen L. Martin Company of Baltimore, MD during World War 2. She worked as a supervisor for Mojud Hosiery Company in Greensboro, NC.
Violet was an avid bowler and was recognized on various occasions with both personal and team trophies.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Crisp Funeral Home, 669 Highway 19, Bryson City, NC 28713 Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. July 9th. Funeral service will follow in the chapel.
The family wishes to express gratitude and appreciation to Peggy Lequire for ten years of loving home healthcare.
