Obituary of Odelia Birchfield

Mrs. Odelia Herron Birchfield went home to be with Jesus early on May 11, 2024. She was 90 years old. Waiting on her in heaven were her husband, Wayne Birchfield, and her parents, Dan and Maybell Herron. She was reunited with her brothers, Sonny and Lonzy Herron, and so many others will meet her there. She will be missed by her daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Mike Allison, Lisa Wills, and Cindy and Buck Arch. She has two sisters, Ofelia Moore and Della Cook, and she has five grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Her dog, Sweetie, will also miss her. Odelia was born on Alarka in 1933 where she made precious memories growing up with her sweet family. She married Wayne on August 31, 1952, and they had a beautiful life raising their girls. Early on, she owned and taught “Little Folks Play School.” Odelia worked tirelessly for the Lord and was a member of Victory Baptist Church. She took every opportunity to tell people about Jesus, and she taught Sunday school and led Bible studies. There was a sparkle about Odelia, an uncommon shine that quietly lit any space. She loved people, and her hospitality never let anyone leave without something in hand, maybe a Bible track, a beautiful story, or cucumbers from her garden. She loved her flowers, and we will miss her quick wit and beautiful handwriting. Odelia was sharp and thoughtful, and she wore out many Bibles. She loved decorating her house, working in the yard, cooking for friends and family, and she had a careful eye for details and finishing touches. Funeral Services will be held 2:30 PM Wednesday, May 15, 2024 at Victory Baptist Church. Burial will be follow at Arlington Cemetery in Bryson City, NC. The Family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 2:30 PM Wednesday at the Church. Her favorite Bible verse was Psalm 46:1: “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”
