Mrs. Birchfield was my child's first teacher at Play School. She was so warm and loving to all of the children. She had a burden on her heart for little children. She ministered to the kids and families and exemplified the love of Christ. She was a true Christian who walked the walk. The world needs more women like her. My condolences to her family.

Odelia was one of the most special people I have ever known. She was such a strong witness for the Lord and always talked of her Savior, Jesus Christ. I enjoyed so much the time we spent together at Cold Springs Baptist Church. She always made me feel so loved and was such an encouragement to me. Her sweet and precious spirit was always so welcoming. Odelia never made you feel condemnation but always tried to encourage and build people up. Odelia could be described as radiant as she radiated the Love of God to those around her. She was never ashamed to praise the Lord and always abounded in praise for Him.
She was such a classy lady, and her love of decorations was obvious as you could see her trees and yard change with every holiday or season. I had the pleasure to sing at one of her Christmas party devotions and have included the picture I took of her that day. She looked so beautiful sitting in front of her tree. I was totally amazed that she had every room of her house decorated with a special theme. I told her she should charge admission for people to come see her house as it was so amazing.
She was careful to show me the tree she had decorated especially for Wayne. She loved and missed him so very much. She also once shared a testimony of how God gave her just a glimpse of Wayne in heaven and how they were all standing praising and singing to the Lord. She talked about there being so many more colors there than there were here and no doubt she is seeing those colors and joining Wayne and many others praising Jesus forever.
She had the strongest faith of anyone I have ever known and was such a champion for Jesus. I have no doubt that when she entered Heaven’s gates she heard the words, “Well done good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your Lord.” Sadly and to my detriment, I did not visit or spend the time with Odelia that I should have in the last few years but that is definitely my loss as I have missed out on the love and encouragement and valuable wisdom she would have imparted. I would be pleased if I could leave this world completing a fraction of what she has done to love others and lead people to the Lord. She was truly a shining example of what we should all strive to be and this world is a darker place without her, but Heaven is now so much sweeter. I can definitely say my life is infinitely richer to have known Odelia Birchfield. To God be the glory until we meet again my sweet, precious friend!!!

I grew up at Mrs. Birchfield’s house. My mom took me to see her and I was Judy Birchfield best friend at church and school. She became like a second mom! I ate many wonderful meals at her table. The best memories was when I could visit from out of town and go to see her. We sat around and talked about the Lord and reminisced! She prayed for me; and on the phone (not long ago) she encouraged me after the passing of my husband. She shared with me in October about leading a man to the Lord who came by after a storm to cut her tree that fell. Bryson City and Victory Baptist will always remember this godly lady who witnessed and led many people to the Lord, and taught many many adults and children about Jesus! Prayers for the family at this time!
Sincerely,
Sue Shuler Ford

So many holiday memories shared at Judy’s house. Always so pleasant, kind and thoughtful. I’m her smile was so special. Serenity had that same smile. Such a precious lady who has now joined her beloved Wayne in Heaven.
