A true Southern Gentlemen, scholar and true to his roots in Western North Carolina. I am truly saddened by his passing as I met Fred Moody in my first year of practice in Macon County. Because he knew my father, he became a mentor to me in my early years. I know he will be greatly missed.

I remember Fred as a fine young man. Ruth Ann is a dearest old friend from WTHS and UT-K. The last time I saw them both was in Coffeeville, MS, at Ruth’s Dad’s family farm. Henry kindly taught my young son to catch a fish, “pat the fish”, then throw it back in the lake to swim another day. Now my son has a JD from Ole Miss. Wish I could get to Bryson City to see the family, but we can’t make it from Memphis this week. God bless you, Ruth Ann! Love you!

Dear Ruth,
I was so sorry to learn of Fred's passing. I am so glad I got to see you both at the reunion in September of 2022. When I talked with Fred on the telephone before the reunion, he sounded great. So hard to believe he is gone. Deepest condolences to you and your family. You all will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Fred was so well-respected in Bryson City, in NC, and beyond. His integrity, as well as his kindness and humor, brought many to him for the help they knew he could and would supply. We valued his friendship greatly. His memory will live long among those of this community.

Fred Moody was our neighbor since I was a little girl. My mother adored both he and Ruth. He will be greatly missed and coming home will not be the same without Fred living on the hill above us.

I had the privilege of doing my college internship with Fred in the summer of 1986. I was the only student in my class that actually got paid an hourly rate. Fred allowed me to shadow him and the office staff. It was a summer I will always cherish as it led to my decision to get a real estate license after finishing my degree. 34 years and still in real estate and I can thank him (and Sue)! He will be greatly missed.
