Obituary of Gene Alexander Herron

Gene Alexander Herron, 72, of Swain County, passed away on February 23, 2020. Mr. Herron was born in Swain County on June 24, 1947 to David Herron and the late Lassie Herron. Gene worked as an electrical and mechanical engineer in the packaging industry. He proudly served our country in the United States Army, serving two tours in Viet Nam. He was also a member of the Masons. He was a master of many trades and loved working and building outside. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved to be outside whenever possible. Mr. Herron is survived by his wife, Cindy Herron, of 37 years. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Bill Herron and David Herron (Corina); four sisters, Kay Roensch (Ken), Judi Ramos (Pete), Evelyn Kelly (Charles), and Rita Herron (fiancée, Bruce Buffington); one brother, Billy Herron (Ruby), mom-in-law, Darlene “Granny” Fenton and numerous nieces, nephews, and special family members. In addition to his mother, he is preceded in death by a brother, Lonnie Herron. A funeral service will be held in the Chapel at Crisp Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 26, 2020 at 11:00am with the Reverend Max Cochran officiating. Burial will follow at Brendle Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends form 10:00am until 11:00am, one hour prior to the service.
