Obituary of Troy Homer Parris

Troy Homer Parris, 95, of Bryson City passed away August 26, 2018 at Harris Regional Hospital after a brief illness. Born September 12, 1922, he was a native of Swain County and the son of the late Taylor and Dora Parris. He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Oma Childers Parris, his granddaughter, Renee Parris Henderson and siblings, Virgil Parris, Velma Loftis, Bertie Combs, Della Messer, Flonnie Tippett, Maebelle Messer, Ethel Brooks and Vinnie Phillips. He was an inspiration to all who knew him. A great Christian man who loved his family and church. He was a man of character and remained independent until the end of his life. He retired from the original Carolina Wood Turning Company and attended the Bryson City Church of God. He is survived by daughters, Brenda Jones (Glenn) of Bryson City, Lynda Spivey (Jack) of Asheville and son, Bruce Parris (Jan) of Michigan; grandchildren, Randall Parris, Angelia Beam, Cenda Dickey, Mark Jones and Jon Spivey; great grandchildren, Clay Parris, Alysse Parris, Cole Henderson, Chase Henderson, Conner Henderson, Abbey Brown, Sarah Brown, and Gavin Jones. Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 30, 2018 at 2:00 pm at the Bryson City Church of God, 1027 Toot Hollow Road, Bryson City. Dr. Randall Parris, Rev. Marty Pressley and Rev. David Beam will conduct the service. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2:00 pm Thursday at the church. Burial will be in Swain Memorial Park. As said by his granddaughter, "We are saying goodbye to the finest man we have ever known. He lived every day to please God. He loved his family and church family so much. No words can describe how much we loved him but we know he is with his Father in Heaven."
