Marie Silver Davis Wike
There was a great reunion in Heaven Sunday, September 13, 2015, at 1:30 PM, when Marie Silver Davis Wike of Whittier was welcomed home by her Lord and Savior and other family members. She passed peacefully at her home surrounded by loved ones. "We love you mom and we will dearly miss you and your kind, loving, gentle spirit."
A lifelong resident of Swain County, born on May 21, 1914, she was 101 years old and the last surviving child of Andrew Jackson Davis and Polly Ann Williams Davis. She was preceded in death by her husband; Samuel William Wike, two Grandchildren: Richard Wike, Maria Chamberlin Austin, six brothers; Roy, Troy, Grady, James, Herndon, Marion, and six sisters; Ruby, Alta, Gertrude, Wilma, Orbie, and Susie.
She was a devoted, faithful, loving wife for 75 years to her husband and a devoted, loving mother to her seven children. She enjoyed spending time with her children and loved each one dearly. Faith, family, and home were three of the most important things in her life. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, stitchery, quilting, and made numerous beautiful quilts to pass to her children and grandchildren.
She leaves behind to cherish her blessed memories three daughters, Betty Brintnall of Sylva, Reva Chamberlin (Charles) of Hixson, TN., Margie Gibson of Bryson City; four sons, Cormal (Cleta) and Hoover Wike of Whittier, William (Billie) of Brevard, Daniel (Claudell) of Needmore; fourteen grandchildren, thirty-four great grandchildren, eleven great-great grandchildren; and special caregivers, Jane Cochran, and Peggy Buchanan.
Mother's wish was to remain at home and be cared for at home. The family wishes to express gratitude and appreciation to her caregivers Jane Cochran and Peggy Buchanan for enabling the family to fulfill her wishes.
A special thanks to her granddaughter, Christy Mandrell, RN, Dr. Randall Provost, and Dr. Earl Haddock for all the kind, loving, quality, compassionate care given to our mother for numerous years.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, at Whittier Missionary Baptist Church. The Revs. Terry Taylor and Doug Tankersley will officiate. Interment will follow at Swain Memorial Park. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at the Church from 12:00 – 2:00 pm prior to the service.
Crisp Funeral Home of Bryson City is in charge of arrangements.
