Obituary of Coburn Sawyer

Coburn Sawyer, 87, of the Alarka Community went home to be with the Lord on Friday, August 14, 2015 in a Buncombe County Hospital. A native of Swain County, he was the son of the late William Joe and Bessie Camby Sawyer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Catherine DeHart Sawyer; seven brothers and three sisters.
Coburn was a proud Republican and WWII Veteran, where he served in both the US Maritine Service and the US Army. He was also a member of the Golden Ark Masonic Lodge.
He is survived by one daughter, Phyllis Annette Warner and husband Bob of Harrison, Michigan; two sons, David Sawyer and wife Linda of Bryson City, and Edward Sawyer of Bryson City; three grandchildren, Karen Stilwell and husband Mark of Southgate, Michigan, Bobby Warner and wife Michelle of Plymoth, Michigan, and Catherine Ivalee Sawyer of Bryson City; two great grandchildren, Brendan Stilwell and Ally Warner; many nieces and nephews; one sister Thelma Sawyer Almond of Bryson City, and her son Mike Clampitt.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday in the chapel of Crisp Funeral Home. Pastor Tom Harris will officiate with burial in the Sawyer Cemetery. Masonic graveside rites will be conducted by Oconee Masonic Lodge # 427, Bryson City, NC.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Monday at Crisp Funeral Home.
