Judith Shuler Queen, 71, of the Alarka Community was called home by the Lord while surrounded by her family at her residence, Monday January 5, 2015. A native of Swain County she was the daughter of the late Burgin Shuler and Margie Cochran. She was an active member of Mt. Vernon Freewill Baptist Church. She loved the church and her church work, especially Senior's Day Out. She was retired from Swain County Schools with 34 years of service. She was preceded in death by her sister Louise Howell, a brother Harold Shuler, and a son Randy Queen. She is survived by her loving caring husband of 48 years Leon Queen; daughter, Jill Thompson and husband Darrell of Bryson City; grandson, Jake Styles of Bryson City; granddaughters Meredith, Stephanie , and Allison Queen of Morganton; one brother Maurice Shuler of Waynesville and a sister Jean Shuler Varner of Bryson City; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday in the Chapel of Crisp Funeral Home. Reverend Jeff Waldroup and Jim Frady will officiate with burial in Swain Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Wednesday at the funeral home.
