Obituary of Emily Morrow Harris
Please share a memory of Emily to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
What a glad reunion day in Heaven as Emily Morrow Harris stepped into eternity on Thursday, May 26, 2011. She had fought a good fight and kept the faith, most especially over the past 16 months which were months of physical suffering coupled with grief from the loss of a loved one. She has been courageous and strong and truly a Proverbs 31 woman whose price is far above rubies.
Emily was born July 6, 1931 in Iredell County, NC to the late Marshall and Erma Morrow. She was a graduate of Celeste Henkel High School in Statesville and also of Baptist Hospitals School of Nursing in Winston Salem. Her nursing career remained active until just one year ago as she exemplified nursing, loving, and caring for the residents at Mountain View Manor Nursing Home in Bryson City. This field of nursing was one that she particularly loved as she had worked at Hill Haven Nursing Home in Statesville in the 1960's. Nurse Emily also had a wonderful season as a public health nurse with the Swain County Health Department working within the school system. A significant role in her life was that of a pastor's wife - she was truly called and was a force behind the wonderful ministry of "Preacher Tom." From playing the piano, teaching a class, helping out with the Victory Day Care and Kindergarten or the multitude of behind the scenes jobs required of her. "Mrs. Preacher" as she was sometimes called was a true lady and help mate.
Emily's favorite role was that of wife and mother and all the other family roles she had. She was married for 58 years to the absolute love of her life, Tom Harris whom preceded her in death January 6, 2010.
A mother above all mothers who loved with all of her heart, she is survived by three children, Deborah Harris Carpenter of Maiden, NC, Rosalyn Harris Robinson of Bryson City, and Thomas Craig Harris of Clyde, NC. Barry Carpenter and Gary Robinson have been at the bedside of this mother-in-law who dearly loved them and entrusted her daughters to them.
Grandchildren, Keara Carpenter Ashe, Jessica Carpenter Lineberger, Emilee Robinson James and Jared Robinson have been cherished by their grandmother and will never forget her love and care.
Three precious great grandchildren were fortunate to have known her and been loved by her; Camden Ashe, Maura James and Audrey James now speak of Memaw being in Heaven with Pap.
Emily was preceded in death by a brother, Edwin Morrow of Statesville but is survived by a loving family of three brothers, Fred Morrow and wife Sarah, Dwight Morrow and wife Annie Mae, Thurman Morrow; and two sisters, Shula Morrow Boyd and Dianne Morrow Houston and husband Paul; and sister-in-law, Marlene Morrow
Emily was a quiet private lady whose desire was always to "be a lady" and to love and serve. Her joy is now complete.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday at Victory Baptist Church in Bryson City. Revs. Jon Stephens and Steve Gunter will officiate with burial to be Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. in Iredell Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Saturday at the church.
