Whittier
John Jackson Adams, of Whittier, died Thursday (May 19) at Skyland Care Nursing Center.
He was born April 20, 1938 to the late Myrtle Raby Adams and Cola Hanes Adams, of Whittier.
Mr. Adams was a retired Air Force staff sergeant, who served in the Vietnam War. After retiring from the military, he worked as a sheet metal specialist for Boeing, then returned to Whittier, where he was a carpenter. He managed River View Campground in Cherokee, with wife Chieko Sano Adams until their retirement. He was an active member of the American Legion and VFW Post 8013. He was an active bingo caller. In his spare time, he especially enjoyed fishing and hunting with nephews Kenny Long and Dennis Adams.
Mr. Adams was preceeded in death by his wife Chieko; brother George T. Adams; and sister Louise Ledford.
He is survived by daughter, Tina Adams Firesheets, son-in-law, John, and grandson, Max, all of Jamestown, North Carolina; and sisters Hazel Long, of Fletcher; Betty Holcombe of Sylva; and Becky Harper and Martha Wiggins, both of Belmont.
At the request of the deceased, there will be a private memorial service at a later date.
