I am the daughter of Charles Stephenson who worked at Phillips 66 for many years. I grew up admiring both of your parents, they were such "good" people. Their devotion to eachother was always evident and they would speak so lovingly about their children. So sorry for your loss, for the community's loss, but rejoice in heaven's gain. Thoughts and Prayers for your families.

To the Family:
I am so sorry about the death of your father. The blessing of old age for a parent means we have them in our lives longer to make cherished memories and to learn from their wisdom. But it makes the loss more profound because "they have always been there".
We have only lived in Swain County six years. But your father''s accomplishments must be honored by all citizens of the community. As I read his obituary it was clear the years of service of your father as Mayor, Planner and Fire Chief makes Bryson City what it is today. All while running a business and raising a family. A pillar of the community in its true meaning.
I hope your faith and family can bring you comfort in these sad days.

Perby Bennett became a huge presence in our lives after we moved to Bryson City and joined the Presbyterian Church in 1995. We have so many fond memories of him: his faithfulness in attending church, his beautiful simple prayer when he helped take up the offering, his wonderful models, coming to the holiday parties at our house, his memories of this town and its history. One of the most amazing examples of his sharing memories was at a library program when he and Commodore Casada were asked to tell about knowing Horace Kephart. After I went to work for the railroad, I would see him every day when he came to get his strawberry ice cream cone and listen to the depot bank before the train left. His like will not be seen again and we are richer for having the privilege of knowing him. He was indeed proud of his family. Please know that our prayers are with you all.

I've know Perby all my life but got to know him more in the last 20 years, I enjoyed his stories and admired his "models" when he invited in his home to share. He hosted an Easter egg hunt for the children of the Presbyterian Church several years ago and he and each of us had a great time. He was a pillar of the community.

Olivia and Bobby--My thoughts are with you and your families at this time of sadness. However, I know you can find solace in the fact that Perby lived a full and meaningful life, contributing to his community in significant ways and serving as a pillar of the church almost as far back as my memory reaches. He was extremely proud of both of you and that was often about the only way I could penetrate his taciturnity when I saw him (often) in Dad's later years.

To the family:
You may not know me but I have known your father all my life. He would come to my dad's station (Wiggins 66) daily. He would come in sit around talk (especially the days he would be waiting on Tweety to get her hair done). He was a great asset to our county and will be greatly missed. You are all in our thoughts and prayers.
