Cherokee Dateline: Ernest Locust, 65, of the Big Cove Community, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, May 3rd, 2011 in an Asheville VA Medical Center. A native of Cherokee, NC he was the son of Rev. Arthur Locust of Cherokee and the late Sallie Junaluska Locust. He was a US Army Veteran having served in the Vietnam War and was a member of the Steve Youngdeer American Legion Post #1473. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie Driver Locust. In addition to his father he is survived by four daughters, Ivy K. Locust, Bonnie S. George and husband Goat, Jenny R. Maney and husband Jack, and Ellie Mae Maney and husband Robert all of Cherokee, two sons, Ernest Locust Jr. and wife Debra, and Clyde Locust both of Cherokee, three sisters, Linda George and husband John, Suzanne Locust, and Wilani Taylor and husband Bill all of Cherokee, four brothers, Jim Locust and wife Evelyn, Arthur Locust Jr. and wife Parshala, Frank Locust and wife Betty and Jeremiah Locust, Sr. all of Cherokee, and 13 grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM Thursday May 5th, at Goose Creek Baptist Church of which he was a member. Revs James Gunter and Arthur Locust will officiate with burial in the Locust Family Cemetery. The body will be placed in the Church at 4:00 PM Wednesday May 4th, by Crisp Funeral Home to await the hour of Service. An online register is available at www.crispfuneralhome.org
