Huey Horace Combs 92, of the Alarka Community, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, March 29th, 2011 in Swain County Hospital. He was the son of the late Johnny and Maggie Steadly Combs. He was a US Army Veteran having served in WWII. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by 9 brothers and sisters and his first wife Dorothy Combs.
He is survived by his wife Bertie Parris Combs, two children, Horace Combs and wife Linda of Savannah GA, and Susan Combs of Winston-Salem NC, four step children, Hazel Shultz and husband Roy, Betty Barnes, Jean Cochran and husband Bruce, and Judy Baines all of Bryson City, four grandchildren, two great grandchildren, 15 step grandchildren, 27 great step grandchildren, and four great great step grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM Friday April 1st, at Alarka Church of God of which he was a member. Revs Benji Collins and Jim Frady will officiate with burial in the Mason Branch Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8:00 PM Thursday March 31st at the Chapel of Crisp Funeral Home.
