Obituary of Gladys Thankie Higdon

January 5, 2011 Bryson City……….Dateline Gladys T. Higdon, 86, of the Alarka Community, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday January 4, 2011 in a Swain County Health care Facility. A native of Swain County, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Louise Lindsey Smith. She was preceded in death by 4 brothers, Ray, Lydon, Verlin and Odes Smith and one sister Beatrice DeHart. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, J.C. Higdon 4 Daughters- Lynda Nell Massey of Gastonia Deborah Styles and her husband Don of Bryson City Dinah Bembry and her husband Timothy of Bryson City Delores Gunter and Robert Hull of Bryson City 1 Son- Roger Smith and his wife Karen of Bryson City 4 Grandchildren- Frank Massey, Chris Styles, Tyrone Ball and Mitch Wood 2 Sisters- Lassie Herron of Bryson City Doris Bradley of Belmont 1 Brother- Walt Smith of Bryson City Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM Friday in the Chapel of Crisp Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Ray Ball officiating, burial will be in Fred Cochran Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 PM Thursday at the Funeral Home.
