Obituary of Odell Otis Grant

Odell Otis Grant Sr., 87, of Bryson City, went to his forever home peacefully, Tuesday, November 4, 2014. A native of Swain County, he was the son of the late John and Cora DeHart Grant. He was a US Navy Veteran. He was a member and deacon of Nantahala Baptist Church. He was a local Businessman and a former Swain County Commissioner from 1974-1978.
He was instrumental in obtaining funding for Swain County High School and the development of Smoky Mountain Mental Health.
He was preceded in death by siblings Hazel Grant Lindsay, Waitsell Grant, Willard Grant, John Talmadge Grant, and Ray Grant.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Norma Jean Totherow Grant; three children, Lisa Grant Cooper and husband Andrew of Oakridge, TN, Odell O. Grant Jr. of Bryson City, and Jill Grant McCoy and husband Patrick of Sylva; four grandchildren, Christopher Drew Grant and wife Beth, Vanessa Grant, Gavin and Adrienne McCoy; two great grandchildren, Christian Jru Grant and Chloe Norma Jean Locust; siblings Lynna Grant Gibson of Highpoint, Dillard Grant of Canton and Helen Grant Dills of Highpoint, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday in the Chapel of Crisp Funeral Home. Revs. Jason Holloway, Roy Lindsay, J.D. Grant, and Eddie Taylor will officiate with burial in the Euchella Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Friday at the Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Nantahala Baptist Church, 1333 Wesser Creek Rd. Bryson City, NC 28713.
