Obituary of Carol Myers Saunooke

Carol Myers Saunooke, 61, of the Qualla Community went home to be with the Lord Thursday, December 8, 2011 at her residence. A native of Swain County, she was the daughter of the late Norton and Hilda Brown Myers. She was a graduate of Swain County High School and graduated from Wake Forest University, having played on the first women's ACC Basketball team at Wake Forest. She was a board member with S.C.C. Foundation. She owned and operated several businesses in Cherokee. She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Charlie Saunooke; one daughter, Annette Saunooke Clapsaddle and husband Evan of Whittier; one son, Brian Saunooke and wife Sammi of Cherokee; three grandchildren, George, Utsela, and Ross; and one brother, John Myers of Asheville. Memorial services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday at the Bryson City United Methodist Church of which she was a member. Rev. Wayne Dickert and David Russell will officiate with burial in Bryson City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3 until 4 p.m. Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the S.C .C. Foundation Scholarship Fund, 447 College Drive, Sylva, NC 28779.
