Obituary of George Jesse Sherrill

George Jesse Sherrill, Jr., 73, formerly of the Shoal Creek community, passed away on Sunday, July 20th, 2014 at his home in Lexington, SC. A native of Whittier, NC, he was born on March 22, 1941 to the late George Jesse Sherrill and Etta Ward Sherrill. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two brothers, Henry Sherrill and Joe Sherrill. George is survived by his two sisters, Edna Murphy of Austin, Texas and Peggy Taylor of Winterhaven, Florida; nephews, Jim Sherrill of Apex, NC and Jeff Sherrill of Melbourne, Florida; nieces, Susan Meador of Austin, Texas, Tracy Drake of Weaverville, NC, and Heather Baranski of Apex, NC, and several great nieces and nephews. He was a retired freight specialist with Southeastern Freight Lines and was a former US Navy veteran. George enjoyed working the night shift, following sports, premium ice cream, and his cigars. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, August 2, 2014 at Crisp Funeral home in Bryson City NC. Burial will be at Bumgarner Cemetery in Whittier, NC.
