Obituary of James Bert McMahan

James Bert McMahan, 83, of the Shephards Creek Community went home to be with the Lord Saturday, December 03, 2011 in a Swain County health care facility. A native of Swain County, he was the son of the late Boyd and Sarah Simonds McMahan and husband of the late Violet Jane McMahan and Reavle McMahan. He worked for Singer Furniture Co. and retired with the town of Bryson City. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Linda and Brenda McMahan. He is survived by four children, Shirley Ann Haigler of Bryson City, Joretta Stanton and husband James of Oakboro, NC, Hershey McMahan and wife Frances of Bryson City, Harold McMahan and wife Laurel of Bryson City. Bert blessed the world with eight grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren; three brothers, Claude McMahan, Lee McMahan, Earl McMahan; and four sisters, Beth, Grace, Joyce, and Ruth. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday at Holly Springs Baptist Church of which he was a member. Revs. Tim Barker and Eddie Stillwell will officiate with burial in Lauada Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. Monday at the church. Crisp Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
