Obituary of Evelyn Edwards Birchfield

Bryson City Dateline Evelyn Edwards Birchfield, 89, of the Robinson Gap community went home to be with the Lord Monday, June 3, 2013 in a Jackson County health care facility. A native of Swain County, she was the daughter of the late George and Nanny Edwards and wife of the late Horace Birchfield. She was a member of Arlington Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Patricia Lambert; granddaughter, Cynthia Renee Fortner; five sisters, Helen Cochran, Lillie Arvey, Dora Bowers, Irene Winchester, Jane Richards; and two brothers, Marion and Sam Edwards. She is survived by one daughter, Rena Fortner of Marietta, GA; one son, Zeke Birchfield of Bryson City; two sisters, Imogene Rhodes of Hendersonville, and Joyce Kirkendall of S.C.; five grandchildren, Paula Parton, James Lambert, Leon Birchfield, Carla Fortner, Horace Duke Fortner; 11 great grandchildren; and seven great great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm. Wednesday in the chapel of Crisp Funeral Home. Rev. Jimmy Lambert will officiate with burial in Arlington Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 pm. Tuesday at the funeral home.
