Obituary of Frank Burton Gasaway

Frank Burton Gasaway, age 83, of Tin Man Road, Bryson City, went to be with the Lord Thursday, April 25, 2013 at Mountain View Manor in Bryson City after an extended illness. Born on February 5, 1930 in Whittier, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Victor and Beulah Gasaway. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Ronald D. Gasaway; four brothers, Raymond Gasaway, Lyman Gasaway, Paul Gasaway, and Ray Gasaway; and three sisters, Gradie Whittemore, Ethel Baines, and Maude Griffin. Mr. Frank Gasaway was a career educator who retired after teaching thirty-two years in Murphy and Swain County High Schools. He was a veteran of the Korean War, proudly serving in the U.S. Navy. He was a 32nd Degree Mason at the Oconaluftee Masonic Lodge. As a loving husband, father, and grandfather, he enjoyed his family, playing the mandolin, and talking on his ham radio. Mr. Gasaway is survived by his wife of fifty five years, Lorene Gasaway of Bryson City; his son, Rocky Gasaway and wife Mary of Fletcher; one grandson, Joshua Gasaway and wife Rio of Inman, SC; two granddaughters, Meredith Gasaway and Kimberly Gasaway of Fletcher; one great grandson, Brady Gasaway of Inman; his brother, Lewis Gasaway of Powell, TN; his sisters, Pearl Davis of Knoxville, TN and Marie Pitts of Whittier. The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 28, 2013 from 2 until 3 p.m. at Crisp Funeral Home in Bryson City followed by the funeral service officiated by Rev. Stacey Harris.
