Obituary of Suzanne Simmons
Please share a memory of Suzanne to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Suzanne Simmons Moore of Bryson City, North Carolina passed away early Monday morning, September 30, 2024 at Swain County Hospital. The daughter of Jack Stewart Moore and Mary Elisabeth (Sanders) Moore, and a native of Sarasota, Florida. She had lived in Bryson City, North Carolina for the last fourteen years.
Prior to her time in North Carolina, she spent many years in the area of Pinellas county, Florida where she was known as a beloved Christian school teacher for over 30 years. She invested in students through the classroom, yearbook, cheerleading, and Bible studies. Her students said that she made them feel comfortable, seen, encouraged, and stretched to do the difficult things. Because of her excellence in this profession, she was nominated and placed into the National Teacher of the Year registry for two consecutive years.
Suzanne was known to be a genuine friend, colleague, and family member. As a mother and grandmother, she had a gift for making every holiday special and giving generously to the needs of each family member. She loved crafting, decorating for holidays, watching sports, and word searches. These interests and passions were dear to her, but throughout her life and even in her death she desired that others know that she loved her Savior most of all. Suzanne will be remembered for her spunky spirit packaged within her small stature.
She is preceded in death by her parents Jack and Elisabeth Moore, her brother-in-law Craig Miller of Sarasota, Fla, and her niece Cindy Miller of Saint Petersburg, Fla. She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Richard B. Simmons Jr. of Bryson City, North Carolina, one daughter, Christine Rossiter (Robert) of McDonough, Ga, one sister Barbara Miller of Sarasota, Fla, one brother, Lieutenant Colonel Jack Moore of Largo, Fla, several nieces and nephews, and eleven grandchildren. She will be greatly missed.
