Obituary of Oren Maxwell Monteith

Oren Maxwell (Max) Monteith, 84, of the Shepherds Creek Community, went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, January 17th, 2013 in a Swain County Health Care Facility. A native of Mecklinburg County, he had lived in Swain County since 1974. He was the son of the late Richard and Ida Walker Monteith. He was a retired U.S. Navy Veteran having served for 23 years. Max was a member of Holly Springs Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a brother; Richard Monteith, Jr. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Edith Rathbone Monteith; two children, Carolyn Collum and husband Eugene of Horse Shoe, NC, and Jeff Monteith of Bryson City; two grandchildren, Randy and Christy Cox; one great grandson, Ryan; two brothers, Perry Monteith of Bryson City, and John Monteith and wife Jean of Rock Hill, SC, and one sister Pat Whitly and husband Wink of Fort Mill, SC. Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Sunday in the Chapel of Crisp Funeral Home. Revs. Ray Fox and Eddie Stillwell will officiate with burial in the Holly Springs Cemetery.
