Obituary of Jessie Marie Wiggins Hampton
Please share a memory of Jessie Marie Wiggins to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Jessie Marie Hampton, beloved mother, sister, and grandmother, passed away peacefully at Tsali Care Center on April 13, 2024. Jessie was greeted in Heaven by her parents, Jim and Carrie Jenkins Wiggins; brothers: W. J. (“Buster”), Clyde, and Robert Wiggins; grandson: Chris Wiggins and granddaughter: Jamie Teague.
A native of Swain County, Jessie was born on May 26, 1931.
Jessie was no stranger to hard work. She worked as a caretaker for the elderly and helped to take care of children for many, many years. Jessie retired from Harrah’s Cherokee Casino.
Jessie was a woman of strong faith and had a devout love for her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She loved her family and friends fiercely and was always willing to give a helping hand, lend an ear, or give advice. She loved her little Chihuahua, Becky, very, very much. One of the biggest loves of her life was “ ‘rasslin.’ ” She looked forward to watching “ ‘rasslin’ ” matches on TV each week, specifically to try to catch a glimpse of her favorite, Ric Flair, who she fondly referred to as “that little blonde one.”
Jessie took great pride in her Appalachian heritage, and she will forever be known for her great sense of humor, her tremendous love for family, and her fierce tenacity.
She is survived by her loving children: Roger Wiggins (Celeste) and Sheila McCabe; sisters: Inez Talent, June Cochran (Wayne), and Francis Cook; grandchildren: Dr. William Wiggins (Tiffany), Dr. Whitney Gilchrist (Joel), Joey Teague and seven great grandchildren: Colby and Carter Kirkland; Logan, Savanna, and Layla Wiggins; Connor and Cameron Teague, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Jessie will be missed immensely by her family and all those who knew and loved her.
The family would like to extend a huge thank you to all the staff at Tsali Care Center, who loved Jessie dearly and took wonderful care of her.
The family will receive friends on Friday, April 19th from 1:00-2:00 pm at Crisp’s Funeral Home in Bryson City, North Carolina. Funeral services will immediately follow.
