Obituary of Mary Bryson Wood

Mary Bryson Wood, 85, of Whittier went home to be with the Lord Monday, December 14, 2009 in a Haywood County Hospital. A lifelong resident of Whittier, she was the daughter of the late Jim and Lillie Sutton Bryson. She was an active member of the Whittier Community Club, Whittier homemaker Club, Swain County Senior Citizens where she participated in the senior games in Raleigh. She retired with the Swain County School System as Cafeteria Supervisor. She was the wife of the late John T. Wood with whom she was married 55 years. She also was preceded in death by six brothers, and one great grandchild. She is survived by one daughter, Mary Jenkins and husband Mitchell of Whittier; four sons, Harold Wood and wife Karen of Colorado Springs, CO, Harry Wood of Whittier, Larry Wood of Bryson City, Rick Wood and wife Pam of Sylva; nine grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and special friend and sister-in-law, Lola Bryson of Whittier. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the Whittier Church of God of which she was a member. Rev. Ned Pressley will officiate with burial in the Whittier Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Pallbearers will be Grandsons. Crisp Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
