Obituary of Russell William Cloer

Russell William Cloer, 88, of the Alarka Community went home to be with the Lord Friday, December 29, 2023. A native of Swain County, he was the son of the late David and Hester Woodard Cloer.
He was a US Army Veteran. He retired from NC Department of Transportation after 30 years of service on November 1, 1990. He was a member of the Alarka Fire Department for many years.
He was a member and deacon of Mt. Vernon Freewill Baptist Church and loved his church and all his church family.
He was a beloved husband, daddy, and papaw.
Russell was preceded in death by son, Charles Russell Cloer; his siblings, Carroll and his wife Jerry, Kenneth, and Thomas Cloer.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Elsie Cloer; two sons, Harold Cloer (Cheri) of Bryson City, Mike Cloer (Myra) of Cherokee; daughter-in-law, Mary Ingle; grandchildren, Daniel Cloer (Melody), Joni Estep (Mark), Kristina Cloer, Savannah Cloer; great grandchildren, Katie Cloer and Cody Estep; sisters-in-law, Myrtle Cloer and Francis Cloer; and several beloved nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 pm Tuesday January 2, 2024 at Mt. Vernon Freewill Baptist Church. Rev. Chris Nations will officiate with burial in the Brendle Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 11am to 12 pm Tuesday at the church.
Pallbearers will be Cody Estep, Mark Estep, Daniel Cloer, Troy Keener, Dale Carver, and Gene Richmond.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Russell’s name to Mt. Vernon Freewill Baptist Church. 263 Gibson Road, Bryson City, NC 28713.
