Obituary of Jacque Germaine Shook
Please share a memory of Jacque to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Heaven gained the sweetest angel when Jacque Germaine Shook passed peacefully in her sleep on December 7, 2023. She was greeted with open arms by her loved ones who arrived before her, especially her parents, Fredrick Monroe Blankenship and Della Beatrice Jenkins and a grandson, Joseph Frederick Neumann.
Jacque was born on August 2, 1940, in Bryson City, NC, the place she loved and called home after living in many cities up and down the East Coast. She started and ended her career working in Cherokee, taking pride in the attention and care she provided to each customer she served. In her leisure time, she loved oil painting and ceramics, creating beautiful works of art for her family and friends, but it was fishing she enjoyed most and could often be found on a creek bank reeling in trout.
Jacque was a member of and served in the Eastern Star for over fifty years. As a two-time cancer survivor, her determination to overcome and endure was inspirational and her positive spirit was seriously impressive to all who knew her. She loved Elvis almost as much as she loved her family and found it funny that All Shook Up was her favorite song at the same time she started dating one.
Retirement opened a new world of adventure for her as she donned a leather jacket and chaps and took off with her husband Shorty as a pillion passenger on the back of their motor trike on the journey of a lifetime. Over the next 20 years, they traveled to every state from North Carolina to Alaska, Nova Scotia to Newfoundland and Labrador on the trike, making many new friends, racking up lots of miles, and creating a wealth of memories. She would often say she had lived a long, happy, and full life and that is all we can really ask for.
Jacque was a cherished daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who leaves behind her devoted husband of almost 64 years, Harlan “Shorty” Shook; daughter Angie Shook Neumann; grandchildren Ashley (Manny) Jandres and Trevor (Joanna) Neumann; nieces Marsha (Bill) Adams and Sheila Sutton, and special friends Rosemary Waite and Judy Franks.
Special thanks to Jena Sutton and Four Seasons Hospice staff for their loving and supportive care.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 1:00 on Wednesday, December 13 at Crisp Funeral Home Chapel, followed by a brief memorial service and burial procession to Lauada Cemetery. Brother Max Cochran will officiate. Pallbearers will be Robert Shook, Manny Jandres, Jim Douthit, Cabbott Cochran, Dallas Crowe, and David Gunter.
In lieu of flowers, as Jacque would have wanted, invest the time, money, and energy in those you love.
