Obituary of Richard Alan Franklin

Richard Alan Franklin (Rick), 53, of Bryson City went home to be with the Lord Sunday, October 15, 2023. A lifelong resident of Bryson City, he was the son of the late Wesley Newton and Ida Buchanan Franklin. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a niece, Krystal Brooke Woodard.
Rick served 4 years in the US Army. He retired with 20 years of service from the US Forest Service. He served as a Ranger for 7 years and as a Law Enforcement Officer for 13 years. He also served as Captain with the Graham County Sheriff’s Office.
He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Nira Cope Franklin; one son, Travis Wayne Franklin; sisters, Teresa Kesselring (Pete), and Rhonda Woodard (Tommy); brothers, Jimmy Franklin, Timmy Franklin (Doris), and Wesley Franklin Jr.; many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews who he loved dearly.
Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM Thursday at Crisp Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at Holly Springs Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM Thursday at the Funeral Home.
