I personally never met this fine man. However through my best friend Dee I got to know the man he was and what an honor it was to have been a part of his life well lived. When the time came that you needed care, those that you cared for (Pelkey, McDermott, Page families ) stepped forward to gladly give back to you what you had gladly given to them. Fly high with the angels to your final destination and rejoice with those that have come and gone before you. After all they are happy to welcome you home.

To all of Landon's family--Please accept my sincere condolences. Landon and I were boyhood friends (he and his mother lived in the grand old Dorsey home alongside Toot Hollow Branch across Everett Street from the Presbyterian Church) and spent a great deal of time together--playing softball (he batted cross-handed but was a first-rate hitter), piddling around on the old Bryson City golf course, building "dams" in the branch, fishing in the river, and just being boys. He was in the same graduating class at Swain High as me, and I fondly remember how skilled he was at playing checkers. He often played with some of the regulars at Loafer's Glory on the town square and, far more often than not, beat them. That was unheard of for a youngster but the old men admired and respected his ability.
I tried to contact him a couple of times in recent years but to no avail. He was always a bit of a loner and perhaps just preferred privacy, but I cherish our shared boyhoods and hope that awareness of what a good and gentle soul he was even as a youngster will add to fond memories of his loved one.
