Please share a memory of Etta to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Etta Clark Maney, 96, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 25, 2022. A native of Swain County, Etta was born in Bryson City on September 11, 1925 to the late Thomas L. and Laura Estes Clark. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Ruth, G.D., Irvin, Cecil, Bill, Edna; a daughter, Kay Pace; and a granddaughter, Sheila Willard Webb. She is survived by her daughters, Marty, Faye, and P.J. (James); four grandchildren, Becky (Josh), Robbie (Hilary), Patrick (Danielle Edwards), Alyson (C.J.); four great-grandchildren, Cody, McKayla, Dallas, Colby; a special sister-in-law, Sandra Dean Clark; and several nieces and nephews. Etta was loved by everyone that knew her and wore many titles in her life, but her favorites were “Mom” and “Granny”. She loved her family and was always quick to brag on each child and grandchild with each accomplishment they made. She was well known for her love of the outdoors and was often found tending to her flowers or on a road trip with one of her girls. She enjoyed reading, crafting, watching the birds and cows, word puzzles, and a game of Scrabble was always welcome! She loved her family and could be found sitting around the table with them, laughing over the conversation that was happening or looking for a grandchild that had hid in a large pile of leaves or sharing a chocolate bar with a another one or teaching yet another one how to care for a cactus. She is described as sassy, stubborn, and tough by her grandchildren; and loving, dependable, and the “best Mom in the world” by her children. The values that she instilled in her family will be her legacy that lives on. Private funeral services, at Etta’s request, will be held on Friday, January 28, 2022 at Crisp Funeral Home with burial in the Estes Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Hospice of the Carolina Foothills (Hospice House) P.O. Box 336 Forest City, NC 28043 or Swain County Health Department (Chore Program) 545 Center Street Bryson City, NC 28713
