Obituary of Harry E Wood

Harry E. Wood, 72 of Whittier, North Carolina went to be with the Lord on November 12, 2021 after a long battle with cancer. Harry had a passion for driving race cars. He had many accomplishments racing at Smoky Mountain Raceway. Harry had a lot of friends he made throughout his lifetime. He was also well known for being owner and operator of Wood’s Body Shop for over twenty five years. Harry is preceded in death by his parents, John T. (Johnny Buck) and Mary Wood as well as one brother, Larry Wood. Harry is survived by Mary Jenkins (Mitchell), Harold Wood (Karen), and Rick Wood (Pam). He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. In addition, he leaves behind a special nephew, Daryl Wood (Regina) and special niece Bridget Nations, which spent countless days and nights by Harry’s side caring for him. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Comfort Keepers, Four Seasons Hospice, and Heather, Becky, and Amanda for the wonderful care they provided. In order to honor Harry’s final wishes, a private graveside service will be held at Whittier Cemetery on Sunday, November 14, 2021 at 3:00pm. Pastor Marty Pressley will officiate. Pallbearers will be Jason Webb, Marvin Cooper, Gary Maney, Edward Ray, Brandon Westmorland, and Timmy Rogers. Johnny Extine will serve as an honorary pallbearer. The family will gather at the Whittier Community building following the service. In lieu of flowers the family has asked that donations be made to Four Seasons Hospice.
