Obituary of Kenneth Melvin Sitton

Bryson City Dateline: Kenneth M. Sitton, Sr., 66, of the Sitton Creek Community, passed away peacefully at his residence surrounded by his family Saturday, September 15th, 2012. A native of Swain County, he was the son of the late Odis and Edna Brown Sitton. Kenneth was a retired State Law Enforcement Officer having served 14 years as a Patrolman with the North Carolina Highway Patrol and 19 years as an Inspector with the North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles License and Theft Bureau retiring in January 2002, and was a recipient of The Order of the Long Leaf Pine for his dedicated service. He was of the Christian Faith. He was a member of The Sons of the Confederate Veterans. He enjoyed working outdoors and was an avid gardener. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister Edith S. Camby; two brothers, Harold Sitton and D.W. (Tom) Sitton. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Hester G. Sitton; two sons, Ken Sitton Jr. and fiancée Linda Nelson of Bryson City, Bryan Sitton and Karen Towe of Clyde; three grandchildren, Travis, Brody, and Brynn Sitton; two sisters, Pat Biggs of Bryson City, and Carolyn Rowland of Asheville; two brothers, Cecil Sitton of Greensboro, and Tommy Cooper of Candler, and numerous cousins and extended family. Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday in the Chapel of Crisp Funeral Home. Revs. Tim Barker and Eddie Stillwell will officiate with burial in Holly Springs Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8:00 PM Monday at the Funeral Home. An online register is available at www.crispfuneralhome.org
