Betty L. Ward (December 27, 1944 – October 26, 2020)
Betty L. Ward, 75, of Newport News, Virginia passed away on October 26, 2020. She was born in Bryson City, NC to the late Jim and Laura Bumgarner Burns. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles R. Ward and siblings: Taylor Burns, Jimmy Burns, Charles Burns, Helen Burns and Glenna B. Waldroup, Grady Burns, Fay McLean, Fannie Seay and Janie Cronic.
She is survived by her son, Randy and wife, Diana Lynn Ward of Hampton, VA; grandsons Nick Ward of Colorado Springs, CO and Chad Ward of Hampton, VA; two great grandsons, Jaedyn and Jordan. She is also survived by her long-time companion, James Hammer; sisters, Flonnie Ramsey and Jessie Dyer of Bryson City, NC; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 11 am on Monday, November 2, 2020 at the Wilmot Cemetery in Whittier, NC. Pastor Michael Watson will officiate.
R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home assisted the family in Newport News, VA.
