I first got to know Mary Evelyn Nichols when I was director of Swain County Center for the Arts. She attended most of the concerts that were held there during the 15 years I worked there and made a point of getting to know me. Her beautiful smile, warmth and sincere friendliness will be greatly missed. My deepest sympathy to Nick and Tammy and all her family. Eugenia (Jenny) Johnson

Mary was the first to greet me as a visiting soloist to First Ba ptist Church. She was one of the reasons my husband & I joined FBC. She always had a beautiful smile for everyone. To know Mary was to love her. She will be greatly missed in Bryson City.

Mary Evelyn was someone I've known as far back as my memory traces, and from boyhood onward it was always a delight to be around her. She epitomized grace and goodness, was always impeccably dressed in a fetchingly fashionable way, and invariably had a ready smile and delightful disposition. She was one of those rare individuals with a gift for making everyone around her feel a bit better about themselves and the world at large. In short, she was a lovely ornament to Bryson City and Swain County throughout all of her full and fulfilling life. I will always remember her with great fondness.

Dear Tammy and Nick, we can only imagine what Heaven is like with Miss Mary there. She is probably teaching all the"Boom Shakalaka" cheer" WE will never forget her 90 birthday where we gave the words to that cheer to all that attended her party and we surprised her with a mass cheer!! She was a super lady and always fun to be around. You all have been blessed to have her as a mother. She will be missed by all, but welcomed into Heaven with cheers. Much love, Kaye & Pat McConnell
