Dorothy Owen, 80, of Bryson City went to be with the Lord on July 28, 2020. She was born in Swain County on June 24, 1940 to the late Woodrow and Ruth Mason. She was also preceded in death by her husband Paul Owen. Dorothy was a member of Whittier First United Methodist Church. She also enjoyed sewing, watching quiz shows, and shows like Judge Judy and Steve Harvey. Her family says that she also enjoyed a good yard sale. Dorothy is survived by a son, Robert Read Jr.; three grandchildren, Kathy Read, Catalena Porter, and Jazmine Read; two great-grandchildren, Dante Read and Zach Becker; one sister, Linda Hudson Vaughn; special family members, Danny Hudson, John Hudson, and Jacob Hudson and two special pets, Gizzy the dog and Tommy the cat. In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by a daughter, Kathy Jo Mason and one brother, Charles Mason. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2020 at 12:00pm in the chapel of Crisp Funeral Home. Reverend Jo Schonewolf officiating. Burial will follow at Swain Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Clinton Porter, Jazmine Read, Kathy Read, Ezra Becker, John Hudson, Jacob Hudson, and Dante Read. The family will receive friends from 11:00am until 12:00pm, one hour prior to the service. Crisp Funeral Home is assisting the Owen family with arrangements.
