Obituary of WILLIAM ALLISON MANESS

William Allison (Bill) Maness, 66, of Bryson City Passed away Sunday, February 22, 2009 in a Jackson County Hospital. A lifelong resident of Swain County, he was the son of the late Clarence and Lena Allison Maness. He graduated Swain County High School in 1961 and attended Appalachian State University. He was an employee of Maness Manufacturing Company until he retired with over 30 years of service. He was an active member and participant of the Bryson City United Methodist Church. He was an active member of the Bryson City Jaycee's where he was presented with the Life Member Award and also was awarded Jaycee of the year. Bill also was a member of the Civitan Club.
He was an avid Hunter, Fisherman, and enjoyed boating and water skiing as a young man.
He is survived by a sister, Carolyn Slawter and husband Bill of Asheville, a brother Jim Maness and wife Sandi of Bryson City, Nieces and Nephews, William Slawter, Jr., Andrew Slawter and wife Mary and family, Michelle Maness, and James Neill Maness, a devoted caregiver Terry Arvey, and special friends, Raymond DeHart, Cam Carson, and Doug Revis.
Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 PM Tuesday at the Bryson City United Methodist Church. Revs David Russell and Earl Holden will officiate with burial in Swain Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 2 until 3 PM Tuesday at the Church.
Crisp Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Bryson City United Methodist Church, or to your favorite charity.
