Obituary of Hazel Leona Shultz
Hazel Leona Jones Shultz, 78, of Bryson City went home to be with the Lord Saturday, July 20, 2019 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. A native of Swain County she was the daughter of the late Horace Jones and Bertie Jones Combs and wife of the late Roy Shultz.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son Tim Houser; granddaughter, Christin McGaha Phillips; grandson, Donald Anthony McGaha (DJ); son-in-law, Donald Lee McGaha, Jr; brothers, Alfred and Roy Jones.
She was a member and vital part of Alarka Church of God where she was the organist, singer and Sunday School Teacher. She was also the organist at Lincolnton Church of God. She and Roy were coordinators of Young At Heart and a nursing home ministry before moving to Bryson City in 2006. Hazel used Facebook to invite people to church and give her words of wisdom every Wednesday and Sunday.
Hazel was an avid flower gardener with a green thumb. She loved her flowers.
She is survived by her children, Randy Houser of Opelousas, LA, Beth McGaha of Bryson City; step-daughters, Audrey Peticos of Ellenboro, Scarlet Casey of Lincolnton; daughter-in-love, Tammy Houser; grandchildren, Timothy, Travis, David, Dylan H., Dylan R., Tristan, Samantha, Caitlyn, Shawn Michael and Samuel; great grandchildren, Alexis, Summer, Micah, Jonah, Owen, Evelyn, Trinity and Tiara; Sisters, Betty Barnes, Jean Cochran, and Judy Baines all of Bryson City. step brother, Horace Combs of Savanah, GA; and step sister, Susan Combs of Winston Salem; and many nieces, nephews cousins and friends who loved her very much, as well as her pet dog, Buddy and two cats.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm Monday in the chapel of Crisp Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Mason Branch Cemetery.
The family will receive frieinds from 1 to 3 pm Monday at the funeral home.
