Obituary of Douglas Hansel Starr

Douglas Hansel Starr, Sr. 79, of the Sawmill Creek Community passed away Friday, August 10, 2012 at his residence. A native of Orlando, Florida, he had lived in Swain County since 1983. He retired with Orlando Utilities Commission with 35 years of service. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a volunteer fireman with Pine Castle Fire Dept. for 18 years. He also was a member of Pine Castle First Baptist Church. His father was Sheriff Dave Starr of Orange County, FL for 23 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Henrietta Starr and one son, Ronald Starr. He is survived by two sons, Douglas H. Starr, Jr. and wife Karen of Bryson City, Gerald D. Starr, Sr. and wife Janet of Bryson City; one daughter, Theresa Hiatt and husband Neal of Kissimmee, FL; nine grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Crisp Funeral Home in Bryson City, NC. Rev. Branton Loftis will officiate.
