Obituary of Elizabeth (Lizzie) Bowers
Elizabeth (Lizzie) Bowers, 90, of the Alarka Community finally achieved her goal and went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday March 12, 2019. A native of Swain County she was the daughter of the late Coleman Smith and Mary Brooks Franklin. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by two brothers, Lon Smith and John Smith; two sisters, Belle Helton, and Edith Jenkins; two sons, Dexter Bowers and Eugene Bowers; one grandchild, Lonnie Eason, and a great great grandchild, Kyle Rose.
Lizzie was a faithful member of Mt. Vernon Freewill Baptist Church. She had perfect attendance for Sunday School for 25 years. She attended Mt. Vernon Freewill Baptist Church all of her life. Lizzie was a loving mother, grandmother, and most of all she loved the Lord.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Walt Bowers; six children, Brenda Phileman, Jerry Bowers, Kathy Simonds (Earl), Lesa Lewis (Robert), Brian Bowers (Tammy), Scotty Bowers (Melody); three step-daughters, Betty Daniels (Floyd), Kathy Freedle (Steve), and Wanda Lindley (Chuck); 24 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; 15 great great grandchildren; 10 siblings, Mae Clay, Frances Dorsey, Peggy Hayes, Leon Smith, Rollon Smith, Phillip Smith, Sandra Tallent, Janet Allen, Junior Smith, Janie Smith, and several nieces and nephews.
Lizzie will be taken to Mt. Vernon Freewill Baptist Church where the family will receive friends at 6:00 PM Friday.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday at Mt. Vernon Freewill Baptist Church. Revs. Jim Frady and Jimmy Lambert will officiate with burial at Brendle Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be grandsons and Gene Richmond.
