Obituary of John Mack Burrell

Bryson City Dateline: John (Buddy) Burrell, 75, of the Franklin Grove Community passed away Friday, August 3rd, 2012 in a Jackson County Hospital. A native of Swain County, he was the son of the late John M and Velma Beck Burrell. He was retired with over 30 years of service with the N.C. Department of Transportation. He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran having served 8 years. He was a member of the original Franklin Grove Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a sister, Geneva Parris. Buddy was a volunteer Softball Coach for Swain County for many years. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Loretta Proctor Burrell; one son, Toby Burrell and wife Sharon of Bryson City; two grandchildren, Chelsea and Tanner Burrell; and one sister, Brenda Ledford and husband J.R. of Bryson City. Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM Sunday at Bryson City First Baptist Church. Dr. John Tagliarini will officiate with burial in Lauada Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:30 PM Saturday at Crisp Funeral Home where the body will remain until placed in the Church 30 Min. Prior to the services. Flowers will be appreciated but in Lieu of Flowers memorials may be made to Swain High Softball, 1415 Fontana Rd., Bryson City, NC 28713 or to the Lauada Cemetery Fund.
