Helen Jones Sampson, 79, passed away Monday, July 30, 2012 at her home in Cherokee after a five year battle with cancer. Helen worked for EBCI for 28 years retiring in 1995. She was preceded in death by her ex husband, Leon "Duffy" Sampson; Granddaughter, Jada Pilar Johnson; great grandson, McKinnley Drake Shuler; and sister, Edith Keys. She is survived by her four children, Rocky Sampson of Bryson City, Penny Johnson of Cherokee, Duffy Sampson of Cherokee, Reba "Lisa" Sampson of Cullowhee; 10 grandchildren, April Sampson Shuler, Samantha "Sam" Johnson, Austin Sampson, Brandi Johnson, Terra Phillips Miller, Andrew Sampson, Kaitlyn Johnson, Aurora Martinez, Jeanette Faye Sampson, Sierra Tandy Sampson; five great grandchildren, Faith Shuler, Hailey Owle, Aries Leon Sampson, Mercades Marie Phillips, Infinity Grace Miller; and two sisters, Marion Williams and Sally Jones Morrison both of Danville, VA. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Thursday at Wrights Creek Baptist Church. Ray Kinsland and Rev. Dan Lambert will officiate with burial in the Sampson Family Cemetery. The body will be taken to the church at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday by Crisp Funeral Home to await the hour of service.
