Obituary of Evelyn Mae Brooks

Evelyn Brooks, 83, of the Alarka community went to her eternal home with the Lord on October 26, 2018. The daughter of the late Robert and Dollie Parris Jenkins, she was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Solomon Matthew Brooks. She was also preceded in death by one sister, Alta Downs, and one brother, Garl Jenkins.
She was a loving Christian mother for many years.
Evelyn is survived by six children, Helen (Carson) Cookston, Janice Brooks and Eddie Brooks all of Bryson City, Iretha (Marvin) Hancock of Old Fort, Marcia Brooks of Sylva, and Resa Brooks of Waynesville; nine grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and three brothers, Willard Jenkins of Bryson City, Foya Jenkins of Michigan, and Carroll Jenkins of Florida.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday in the chapel of Crisp Funeral Home. Rev. Mark Sale will officiate with burial in Mason Branch Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from12 to 2 pm Tuesday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be grandsons Brian Cookston, Travis and Tyler Brooks, Luke Hancock and Joshua Stephenson and nephew, Rick Downs. Honorary pallbearers will be great grandsons, Matthew Burrell, Corey Stillwell, Lane Brooks, and Covey Cookston.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mason Branch Cemetery Association, 4869 Alarka Road, Bryson City, NC 28713
The family would like to express their deep appreciation to hospice nurse Kassandra Green and Janice Walker.
