Michael (Mike) G. Southards, 60, of the Alarka Community, went home to be with the Lord, Monday August 13, 2018. A native of Swain County, he was the son of Margaret Andrews of Trinity, NC and the late Harold Johnny Southards. Mike is survived by his wife of 42 years, Gertie Cloer Southards; one son, Michael R. Southards of Bryson City; one daughter, Heather Southards Woodard and husband Curtis of Bryson City; two grandchildren who were the light of his life, Braden Southards of Mississippi, and McKenzie Woodard of Bryson City; four brothers, Greg, Tommy, Chris, and Brian Southards and wife Erin; one sister, Sandy Elkins and husband Michael. Mike was known as "Pa" by all the children that knew him. Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM Thursday at Crisp Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Lowell York will officiate with burial in the Wiggins Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Wednesday at the Funeral Home.
