Obituary of Virgil Ledford
Lee Virgil Ledford, 77, (born on September 1, 1940) of the Wolfetown Community went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 26th, 2018. Virgil was a phenomenal father and papaw. He was a well-established woodcarver and was a member of Qualla Arts & Crafts Mutual, Inc. for many years. He was also an experienced mechanic, first taught by Larry Haigler and enjoyed working on vehicles in his spare time.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his four children, Melissa Kaye Ledford and husband, Richie, Frank Thomas “Shorty” Ledford and wife, Amy, Autumn Leigh-Anne Ledford, Shane Cody Ledford and wife, Shelena; a special son, Travis Lossie; twelve grandchildren, Nikki Ledford, Kristen Kirkland, Damon Ledford, Seth Ledford, Nakayda Ledford, Tyanna Ledford, Amila Lossie, Syler Ledford, Anna Watty, Catalina Ledford, Keedan Lossie and SJ Ledford; two great-grandchildren, Branson Ledford and Graeson Kirkland; sisters, Irma Bradley, Mary Betty Ledford and Carol “Babe” Howard; brothers, Riley Ledford and Moses Ledford, Jr.; and many nieces, nephews and special friends who loved him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cordelia Murphy Ledford and Moses Ledford, Sr.; his wife, Norma Kay Owle Ledford; granddaughter, Shaelyn Amayah Ledford; brothers, James and Charlie Ledford; and a sister, Polly Ann Ledford, all of whom were there to welcome him home.
Visitation will be held on Monday, May 28, beginning at 5 p.m. at Cherokee United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 29, at 1 p.m. Pastors Bo Parris and Steve Gunter will officiate. He will be laid to rest in Big Oak Cemetery in Birdtown. Pallbearers will be Damon Ledford, Seth Ledford, Richie Kirkland, Kenny Bradley, Travis Lossie and Gregory Bradley.
