Anita, Nick and family:
Please know of my deep sympathies in your loss. From my childhood, I've great memories of Phillip and his parents, certainly in his boyhood athletics and later career, but mostly through the Presbyterian Church. He was a generous and kind man, and a good friend to so many of us. God bless and keep you.

Siblings Patty, Buddy, John and other members of Philip's family. I belatedly learned of your loved one's passing, although I had known of his illness for some time. Philip was a friend from boyhood onward, and I look back with fond memories of playing basketball together, all sorts of youth activities connected with the Presbyterian Church, good times at Swain High, and the recurring joy of seeing Philip on Sundays at the church whenever I returned to Bryson City for a visit.
He was a good man, obviously a successful coach and teacher, and someone I'm proud to have called a friend. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to all of you.

To Nick and the Brintnall family...I am very sorry to hear this news. My mom battled Parkinson's Disease for many years and passed away last year. Coach Brintnall was kind and caring and I had the utmost respect for him. I had him for biology and study hall at HHS. ( I remember an assignment of dissecting a frog. My friend and I let the bones soak too long in bleach, thus it was impossible to reconstruct the skeleton. When we asked Coach B for another frog, he denied our request and we failed the project! It taught us a great lesson. :) ) Nick, I remember you as a freshman and always enjoyed seeing you in the halls. God bless your family...

Anita, so sorry for the loss of Philip. Living out of town makes it so difficult to attend services, family gatherings, etc. But wanted you to know I was thinking about you at this sad time. Your family has been through so much. My heart goes out to all of you.

I am so sorry for your loss. Coach Brintnall was one of the most positive and influential people in my life. He allowed me to be a manger for his JV basketball team at Hendersonville High School in 1978. Following the basketball season, he encouraged me to become the athletic trainer for the school and supported me in that endeavor. I attended a camp that summer at the University of Tennessee and began my adventure as an athletic trainer. I worked with all of the athletic programs through high school and was fortunate enough to receive a scholarship as a trainer and attended North Carolina State University. The life lessons he taught me through my years in high school molded throughout my life. It has been 35 years since I graduated from Hendersonville High School and I am now finishing my career as a Federal Probation Officer. I have a wonderful wife and four exceptional children. I attribute lots of my success to Coach Brintnall and his guidance through my time in high school. My thoughts and prayers are with Nick and the entire Brintnall family.

My condolences to the Brintnall family. Coach Brintnall was probably the most influential Coach/Teacher of my High School and College years. He let you know in a very direct way when you were doing things right and, of course, when you were doing things wrong. One of the greatest lessons I learned from Coach was how he lead by example. While traveling through WNC, 10 years after I graduated High School, I stopped by an HHS practice. Coach and I spoke after practice, but not for long, he was still running back to the gym with the players. I remember him allowing myself and two friends to borrow his truck one Saturday so we could deliver wood that we had cut to make some money. I remember him meeting me at the school entrance one Monday morning after he had "heard" things about my weekend. He showed us that he cared. RIP Coach Brintnall, you were a positive influence to many of us!

I am so deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Philip Brintnall! He was my general science teacher at HHS in his first year of teaching! He was an incredible teacher and took so much interest in his students. He went out of his way to be nice to me and to make me feel at ease, as I was not athletic in any capacity! Some years later, he and his wife attended Shaws Creek Baptist Church in Hendersonville during the time that my family were members there. It was good to renew that friendship with such a great man! My heart and prayers go out to his family! You were richly blessed to have had such an amazing man in your lives. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten! With my heartfelt thoughts, prayers and deepest sympathy. Alton Connor (HHS Class of 1969)
