Gary--I only just learned, through Don letting me know, of your mother's death. She was a gracious lady and obviously, from some of the truly inspiring condolence offered here, one of those truly inspirational teachers who leave lasting, meaningful marks on their students. That, in and of itself, is a wonderful legacy.

Gary and family,
What a wonderful lady you mother was. Among my earliest memories are those of her, my mother and grandmother --- all teachers and good friends --- spending time together talking about school, loving life and chasing us kids. All who knew your mom were blessed. My thoughts and prayers are with you, my friend.

(Forgive the length)
Mrs. Reece was a wonderful, true lady. I would assume everyone who knew her could write a book on her sweet deeds, just like I could. She taught my father, my brother, and myself in 4th grade. She worked many years along side my mother and I’m certain she was a mentor to all her co-workers. She taught the students more than school subjects. She taught all of us ladylike behavior and gentlemen etiquette. When I reflect back on my time with the teachers at Whittier Elementary School, teachers such as Mrs. Reece, I am reminded that I lived in a wonderful era of caring, loving, TRUE instructors.
At my age of 10, Mrs. Reece had a beautiful corsage delivered to my home on the day of my baptism. She had ordered pink rosettes to match my gown. I will never forget that, nor will I forget her hugs for me as an adult in Ingles. Then she would then retrieve a dollar from her purse for each of my children.
She was loved because she loved others.

Condolence to the family of Helen Reece. A wonderful and caring teacher to all her students. I remember Gary too. He attended Whittier school on the hill. I was in her 5th grade class as well as my older sister. I still have her picture. She did give out pictures when we had school pictures. She made a huge impression on students that is lasting. The family has many memories to hold.

Gary,
As you know, I loved your mother. The years she and Mother shared at Mountain View are etched in my memory forever. Together, we watched our mothers decline physically, but the love was still there. In those earlier years, she was a ray of sunshine--always a smile and a kind word. And, Brock, you were a remarkable grandson, The time you spent with her will become even more precious in your memory. Find comfort because there is a heaven for God's children. Much love to all of you. Mary and Gil
