Obituary of Harold Edd Davis
Harold Edd Davis, Sr.
Harold Edd Davis, Sr., 90, left for his eternal home on January 17, 2018. He was the son of the late Samuel & Eva McHan Davis. He was preceded in death by his son, Floyd, is sisters: Ferayle, Pauline, and Loyal, his brother, Willard, and his granddaughter, Cara.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary Ellen; his children: Harold Jr. (Sharon), Paul (Nancy), Virginia, and Samuel; his grandchildren: Logan, Amanda, and Joshua, and great-grandson, Liam. He is also survived by his brother, Frank (Eleanor), and sister Kate (Don), along with many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his other “young ‘uns”: Jennifer Orr, Jeannie Rhodes (niece), and Lara Glasgow.
Harold was a veteran of the U. S. Marine Corps. He attended Western Carolina Teacher’s College, graduating with a degree in Mathematics. He went to work at the Armed Forces Security Agency during the Korean War. He returned to Western Carolina and earned a Masters degree in History. He became a teacher and taught at several schools in the area: Franklin High School, Almond Elementary, and Robbinsville High School. He was principal at Stecoah High School, before leaving to become Postmaster in Bryson City in 1961. He became a rural letter carrier in 1973 before retiring in 1992. He also farmed.
The family would like to thank his beloved nephew, Jeff and wife, Janet Davis, and Jennifer and David Orr for all of their help.
Visitation will be held on January 22, 2018 12 p.m. at Crisp Funeral Home, with the funeral following at 1 p.m. Burial will be at Swain Memorial Park, with Reverend Danny Lambert officiating.
A veteran’s service will be held at the gravesite after the funeral.
