Fred Lequire, 88, of the Alarka Community, went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, July 5, 2017. A native of Swain County, he was the son of the late Glen and Maye Burrell Lequire. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by one sister, Aileen DeHart, and four brothers, Estes, Lester, Wayne and Glen Ray Lequire. Fred was an active member of Mt. Vernon Freewill Baptist Church until he became ill. He was an ordained Minister. He is survived by his wife of 64 years Marion Ivans Lequire; one daughter, Janet Lequire Smith and husband Phillip of Bryson City; two grandchildren, Chastity Stepp and husband Michael of Bryson City, and Phillip Smith Jr., and wife Kelli of Bryson City; eight great grandchildren, Brianna, Trevor, Dylan, Alissa, Zachery, Savana, Kiersten, and Hunter; one brother Arvil Lequire of Bryson City; one sister, Pearl Ramsey and husband Lonny of Claremont, NC, and several special nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday at Mt. Vernon Freewill Baptist Church. Rev. Jim Frady will officiate with burial in Sawmill Hill Cemetery. Fred will be taken back to the Mt. Vernon Freewill Baptist Church at 6:00 PM Friday by Crisp Funeral Home where he will remain until the hour of service on Saturday. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Bryson City Lions Club.
